Artist to Watch: LoCash Cowboys
The LoCash Cowboys have hit the radio airwaves this summer with an appropriately themed tune to add to your soundtrack to beat the heat Here Comes Summer from their upcoming debut album. The duos music video for the tune has also been making waves with fans on CMT and GAC and finds itself in the Top 10 this week on GACs Top 20 Countdown.
For Preston Brust and Chris Lucas, who make up the LoCash Cowboys, their individual journeys to Nashville began in Arkansas and Baltimore, Maryland respectively. Preston made his way from Arkansas to Kokomo, Indiana when his father got a job as a preacher at one of the churches there. Although his initial musical exposure was through singing a cappella in his fathers church, Preston was introduced to secular music in his teens which inspired him to join show choir. Preston loved to be on stage, but he had doubts about his future as a performer, and it was the encouragement of his mother that persuaded him to give Music City a try.
Meanwhile, Chris spent his days while growing up in Baltimore playing sports, particularly baseball and football, but when he suffered a knee injury, it marked the end of his time on the playing field. Chris then shifted his focus to music and dancing which lead to jobs at various theme parks including Six Flags and Kings Dominion. Upon moving to Nashville, he nabbed a job teaching hip-hop at a couple of dance studios in the area.
It was at the famous Wildhorse Saloon where Preston and Chris first met leading to their musical union as the LoCash Cowboys. Hear Preston share the story behind their meeting and Chris explains why their eight-year journey to this point seemed to happen fast:

In 2008, the LoCash Cowboys caught the eye of music business entrepreneur Ronnie Gilley, one of the owners of Stroudavarious Records. The duo had traveled to Wicksburg, Alabama to perform at the towns high school football homecoming game. Throughout the day, the pair spent quality time with the students at the school talking to the teens about everything to avoiding using drugs to even attending classes with them. By the time that nights game and concert rolled around, the stadium was packed by the local community and Gilley. Upon seeing the pair at work giving back to the school and performing, Gilley was sold on the LoCash Cowboys and Stroudavarious label head James Stroud. That fated night lead to their record deal and the rest is history in the making.
