As a young man, Conway Twitty had two great passions - music and baseball - and he was able to continue his pursuit of both when he was drafted by the U.S. Army where he played on the Army baseball team and formed his own band the Cimmarons while stationed in Japan. He was discharged in the mid-1950s and went on to become known as "the best friend a song ever had" for his knack of choosing hits.
