Album Review: Easton Corbin, Easton Corbin

Newcomer Easton Corbin keeps traditional country music alive and well on his self-titled debut album.  There is no denying that he received a healthy education from the likes of Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard and George Strait on vocal delivery and song selection.  Easton displays a laid back vocal much in the vein of Strait’s signature crooning style on many of the 11 songs on his album.

The first single from the project “A Little More Country Than That” has already scored Easton a number one hit.  It’s a perfect introduction to a man who grew up living in a small town experiencing many of the rural ways of life that the tune describes.  “Roll With It” shows that laid back view of going with the flow, while “A Lot To Learn About Livin’” has a relaxing vibe.  And, since this is a country record, there are definitely songs about heartbreak and loss.  One of which is the powerful “I Can’t Love You Back.”  Meanwhile on “Leavin’ A Lonely Town,” the narrator bids farewell to those he loves to move on to greener pastures.

All in all, Easton puts forth a solid debut effort.  Hopefully, this is the groundwork for what is to come in the future from this bright, new star-in-the-making.
