Album Review: Laura Bell Bundy, Achin' and Shakin'

Broadway baby Laura Bell Bundy makes her country debut with Achin’ and Shakin’, which is like two projects in one package.  Laura displays her powerful pipes beautifully on the six-track Achin’ side with sultry numbers like “Drop On By,” the outstanding “Cigarette” and her self-penned “Homecoming Queen.”  The songs drip with heartache just like many of the great Pasty Cline songs of the past.

Shakin’ kicks off with Laura debut single, the campy “Giddy On Up,” and continues with five more up-tempo tunes.  “I’m No Good (For Ya Baby)” warns off a potential suitor, while “Boyfriend?” is a clever turn in which Laura is pleading with her man to give her permission to use that elusive title for him.  All in all, Laura constructs an interesting ride from start to finish.  While all the Shakin’ is fun, the Achin’ is where the newcomer really shines.
