BEHIND THE SONG: "Giddy On Up"
Before Laura Bell Bundys debut single caught the ears of listeners, Giddy On Up grabbed peoples interest visually with its campy western music video and country fans sat up and paid attention. Interestingly enough, Lauras introduction to the country audience was one of the first songs she wrote after her move to Nashville from New York. According to Songfacts.com, she chalks it up to a case of beginners luck.
For the tune, Bundy shares that she wanted to make the song a little retro and grabbed a bit of inspiration from a Grammy-winning source. She explains, I had said to (co-writer) Mike Shimshack in the beginning, Amy Winehouse takes a throwback 60s and then makes it pop again. I want to do throwback country and then make it more contemporary. And he said, Put horns in it.
Once they did, the writers found themselves on the right track. Laura continues, I came in and was doing the verses, and [co-writer] Jeff [Cohen] and I together came up with giddy on up and giddy on out, and we were like jumping around in his living room. She adds, We started laughing and we knew it would be cheesy. We were like, is this too cheesy? But its funny! Its hilarious.
Bundys self-proclaimed hilarious song was just the right ticket to her first appearance on the country singles charts as it continues to make its way up the Top 40.
