John Lennon's 70th Birthday

Gibson Guitars Releasing Limited Edition Lennon Guitar

Gibson guitars are releasing a line of limited edition acoustic guitars in honor of John Lennon's upcoming 70th birthday, which is this Saturday.  Gibson is replicating a type of guitar known as the J-160E, which is the type of guitar Lennon began playing in 1963 and continued to play for the rest of his life.

Three specific models have been made.  The first is an all-white "Imagine" model, only 70 of which will be sold.  There will also be a replica of the J-160E that Lennon had when he was murdered in 1980, which includes replicas of sketches that Lennon had drawn on the guitar.  Only 70 of those will be sold as well.

Finally, Gibson will offer a plain guitar that looks like the one Lennon played when he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show with The Beatles.  500 of those will be sold.  All three models will be on sale starting Saturday.  Better have deep pockets if you want to buy one: the guitars range in price from just over $4,700 to just over $15,000.
