John Lennon's 70th Birthday

24-Hour Tribute To John Lennon On YouTube Starting Today

Starting today at 9:00 p.m. PT, a 24-hour tribute to John Lennon, in honor of his 70th birthday on Saturday, will take place on the homepage of YouTube.  The spotlight will include a personal video from Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, asking fans to submit video testimonials to YouTube.com/JohnLennon.  Testimonials from bands and artists including Ringo Starr, Aerosmith, Brian Wilson, Bret Michaels, Incubus singer Brandon Boyd, plus actor Jeff Bridges and many others will also be included in the homepage spotlight.

Friday, Google is also displaying a video doodle on its homepage, with animation featuring Lennon's self-portrait set to an audio clip of "Imagine."  It'll be visible until midnight on Saturday, though you can check it in the video clip below.

A new box set featuring all of Lennon's solo albums, along with live and previously unreleased tracks, is in stores.  Other activities worldwide will be taking place on Saturday in honor of Lennon's birthday including a screening of the new documentary, LennoNYC, in New York City's Central Park and an unveiling of a "Peace and Harmony" monument in his hometown of Liverpool, England.
