Conan Ready to Make TBS Debut

Ten months after his ill-fated run on The Tonight Show ended, Conan O'Brien is prepared to make his return to late night TV. On Monday, November 8th, Conan will make its debut on TBS, showcasing O'Brien in a venue he is likely to find far more comfortable- that of the underdog.

The talk show host's seven month stint on The Tonight Show was met with some confusion by viewers, who either thought that it didn't fit the classic Tonight Show framework, or believed that it was a diluted form of O'Brien's successful Late Night run. Friend and longtime sidekick Andy Richter may have put it best, when he described Conan's Tonight Show run as being stifled by pressure from NBC execs. "We'll be more likely to try stuff for the fun of it," Richter told TV Guide of the new show.  "It certainly didn't feel like that was part of our directive on The Tonight Show.  It always felt like we were trying to find an acceptable way to fart in church."

And while Conan isn't likely to focus solely on potty humor, the show will definitely have breathing room to try new gags now that it's on basic cable. Wacky and comedic experimentation became a fixture of O'Brien's original late night program, and being able to spread his wings and fly will surely be a boon for the host. Bolstered by a rejuvenated fanbase and a newfound penchant for social media, O'Brien's new foray into late night TV is expected to mix old bits and staples with new jokes, a new theme song, and yes- even a dancing taco.

As for whether the host will continue to harbor resentment against his former employers, Richter believes it's all behind him. "I know he had some nights where he let himself think about it too much and had trouble getting to sleep and got enraged at three o'clock in the morning," he said. "I don't think he's doing that any more."

Conan will air on TBS Monday through Friday at 11 pm EST.
