Meet the World's First Holographic Performer

While Damon Albarn started up his virtual band Gorillaz well over ten years ago, a new phenomenon in Japan is taking that concept to the next level. A new holographic star named Miku is selling out arenas in the land of the rising sun, and from the looks of it, fans have no problem with the fact that she is completely intangible.

Many people have been introduced to the sensation via the video below, which finds Miku, a charismatic young woman with a greenish tint, singing a song called "World is Mine." The crowd, which goes absolutely bananas, appears to have no problem rocking out to an icon that isn't actually there, meaning that holographic musicians might soon make their way to American stages.

While the last thing the U.S. needs right now is the outsourcing of more jobs to robots and virtual beings, it would definitely be cool to see Albarn's Gorillaz virtually commanding 5,000 people in a packed auditorium. Check out Miku doing her thing in Japan below.
