Puss in Boots licked the competition at the box office over the weekend. The Shrek spin-off, featuring the titular feline voiced by Antonio Banderas, earned an estimated 34 million dollars to debut in the top spot. Its total could've been higher, were it not for the snowstorm that hit the Northeast.

The previous box office champ, Paranormal Activity 3, slipped to second place, collecting 18.5 million dollars. The Justin Timberlake thriller In Time opened in the third spot, with 12 million, and the Johnny Depp flick The Rum Diary premiered in fifth place, with five million.
