Album Review: Gretchen Wilson, I Got Your Country Right Here

Redneck woman Gretchen Wilson waves her rebel flag proudly on her fourth studio album I Got Your Country Right Here.  Throughout her latest work, Gretchen salutes her Southern Rock and outlaw-country heroes (“I Got Your Country Right Here”), hard-working, blue-collar Americans (“Work Hard, Play Harder,” “Trucker Man”) and gives her fans a peek at her political leanings (“Blue Collar Done Turned Red,” “Outlaws and Renegades”).

Gretchen doesn’t hold back on the 11-track project, the first for her own Redneck Records label, and that’s just what fans have come to expect from her.  I Got Your Country Right Here definitely delivers a good dose of Gretchen’s signature attitude like in “The Earrings Song” and the bluesy “As Far As You Know.”

Gretchen’s vocal ability really shines on the ballads included here.  A lot of times Gretchen’s powerful strong woman reputation overshadows the fact that there is a softer side to her and it shows in songs like “I’m Only Human” and “Love On The Line.  But, it’s on “I’d Love To Be Your Last” where Gretchen really hits it home with her subtle emotional performance.  The beautiful song closes out a project that delivers on its boastful title – Gretchen does have “your country right here.”
