James & Carole Won't Extend Troubadour Reunion Tour Despite Success

James Taylor and Carole King's joint Troubadour Reunion tour has been a surprise success, raking in 58 million bucks so far and earning rave reviews. But though the two longtime friends could earn millions more by extending the trek, or by making it an annual event, they're not going to do it. When the tour wraps Tuesday in Anaheim, California, that'll be it.
James tells Billboard, "It's not likely there will ever be another Troubadour Reunion tour. It's tempting. When something works, there's a great pressure to keep the big ball rolling. But the same reason it was difficult for us to finally get together...tends to argue against it ever happening again. Carole and I would be very surprised."
Carole thinks the Troubadour Reunion tour worked because, she says, it was "a confluence of events and people being together at the right time and place, and it came together very organically. This wasn't us saying, 'How can we make more money.'" She says that's why they don't want to extend the tour. Carole explains, "Every minute on that stage for everyone of us is joy. In order to protect that, one of the things you have to do is say, 'Let's not stay at the ball too long.'"
James does say, though, that there will probably be a DVD released, and they're not ruling out a one-off benefit concert or European tour. Stay tuned.
