Wind-Up Records Founder Alan Meltzer Has Died
Wind-up RecordsFounder and former chairman of Wind-up Entertainment, Alan Meltzer, passed away over the weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Meltzer was 67 years old.
In 1997, Meltzer formed Wind-Up Records in New York with his wife Diana. The label helped to boost the popularity of hard rock by signing multi-platinum bands Creed, Seether and Evanescence. Meltzer left the company last year.
Evanescence’s manager Andrew Lurie remembered Meltzer fondly. “Over the span of a decade, I dealt with Alan, first in my capacity as a lawyer for artists signed to Wind-up and then as the manager of Evanescence,” said Lurie. “Alan was a true entrepreneur and along with his amazing wife, Diana, carved out a unique place in the rock world. While he was a fierce competitor and great negotiator, at the end of the day, he was at his best when it came to talking about the music itself, especially when it came to [frontwoman] Amy [Lee]'s music."
According to reports, Meltzer's death was said to be sudden and an autopsy is pending.
