Stringbean

Kentuckian David Akeman is better known to those in the country music community as Stringbean.  Stringbean was one of the biggest stars at the Grand Ole Opry during the 1950s and 1960s and was a part of Hee Haw’s cast when the television show first started.  He entertained crowds with his banjo pickin’ and his unusual way of dressing.  In 1973, he and his wife Estelle were murdered in their Tennessee home resulting in one of the biggest tragedies to hit country music.
