Marty Robbins

In 1943, when he was only 17, Marty Robbins left his home in Phoenix to join the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was stationed in the Pacific. Marty was discharged in 1945 and headed back to Phoenix where he received his first big break in music when he encountered Little Jimmy Dickens who was a guest on Marty's television show in 1951.
