Tammy Wynette

When Tammy Wynette embarked on her career in country music, it was her producer Billy Sherrill who suggested she change her name and he had just the one that worked for her. During their meeting, Virginia Wynette Pugh wore her blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail. Sherrill thought the style made her look like actress Debbie Reynolds in the movie Tammy and the Bachelor. Thus, Virginia became Tammy.
